Nataša Seršen Popović

Nataša Seršen Popović je rojena in vzgojena v Ljubljani. Po končani srednji šoli za oblikovanje in fotografijo se je odločila za študij angleščine in japonščine na filozofski fakulteti, vendar se kljub temu zvesto vrača k ustvarjanju. Trenutno živi v Bielefeldu, Nemčiji, kjer dela kot samozaposlen grafik.

Podobno kot njene smernice študija so njeni najvidnejši vplivi ameriški in japonski.

Nataša Seršen Popović was born and raised in Ljubljana. After finishing art gymnasium, she decided to study English and Japanese at the Faculty of Arts. Regardless of that choice, she remains faithful to her artistic pursuits. She currently resides in Bielefeld, Germany, where she works as a freelance graphic artist.

Similar to her study majors, the most visible influences in Natasa’s art are of Japanese and American origin. In her early years she spent much time on drawing mangas, however this style had gradually become insufficient. In a pursuit of greater versatility, she redirected her attention to classical American comics and studies of anatomy. Today, these influences meet in her first comic drafts for her upcoming dystopian sci-fi book.

Nataša loves to create characters which differ from the modern canons in a more (but sometimes less) subtle manner. Her goal is to create a universe of characters which is virtually identical to the mainstream production (an example of that would be Hollywood), while at the same time it pulls into different waters, ever so gently. Therefore stylistically speaking, Nataša’s goal is not so much to escape the commercially accepted formats, rather than to control and redirect them.

As a counterweight to her dystopic topics, the cheerful, goofy world of cartoons is on an equal footing. Nataša struggles with the idea of having to commit to a single style of expression due to the ways of the modern market, so she asks for your forgiveness and hopes that both her gloomy and cheerful themes may delight you.
